Polyarteritis nodosa associated with acute cytomegalovirus infection.
A case of polyarteritis nodosa is described in which the onset of the disease was associated with acute infection by cytomegalovirus. Peripheral neuropathy was the predominant clinical feature, and death occurred 4 years after the onset. This is the first recorded case of polyarteritis in which cytomegalovirus is of possible aetiological significance.
متن کاملA Fetal Hemolytic Anemia in a Child with Cytomegalovirus Infection
Background Autoimmune hemolytic anemia is a hematologic disorder that is rarely observed in infants and young children. Most of the cases are associated with viral or bacterial infections. In some cases, AIHA can be characterized by a chronic course and an unsatisfactory control of hemolysis, thus requiring prolonged immunosuppressive therapy. Case report Especially in children younger...
متن کاملProtective effect of endogenous PPARgamma against acute gastric mucosal lesions associated with ischemia-reperfusion.
Acute gastric mucosal lesions (AGMLs) are an important cause of gastrointestinal bleeding. Herein, we demonstrate that peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-gamma (PPARgamma), a member of a nuclear receptor family, functions as an endogenous anti-inflammatory pathway in a murine model of AGML induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R). Treatment with specific PPARgamma ligands such as BRL-49653...
متن کاملAdaptive HNE-Nrf2-HO-1 pathway against oxidative stress is associated with acute gastric mucosal lesions.
Disturbance of the microcirculation and generation of reactive oxygen species are crucial in producing acute gastric mucosal lesions (AGML). To understand the protective mechanism against mucosal injury and oxidative stress in the stomach, we investigated sequential expression and localization of a product of lipid peroxidation and a chemical mediator of the oxidative response array, 4-hydroxyn...
متن کاملCytomegalovirus Cutaneous Infection in an Immunocompromised Patient
Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the Herpesviridae family, is an opportunistic infection with a typically benign course in the healthy host but has a more ominous course in the immunocompromised population. CMV infection commonly affects the visceral organs, particularly the respiratory and the gastrointestinal tract. CMV cutaneous lesions are rare and can be easily missed. We present a case ...
